Scaly Bark Watermelon (1881)

Introduced in 1881 by Peter Henderson & Company. This heirloom watermelon has become very rare today. Scaly Bark gets its name from the mottled color of the rind. This variety keeps longer than most watermelon after harvest. In my 1892 James J. H. Gregory and Son’s catalog, Gregory states, "Skin rough looking, remains in eating order long while after gathering." The sweet flesh is red with black seeds and Scaly Bark did very well for me in Manitoba. One of the most exciting varieties in my collection! (90 days)

10 seeds per packet.
