Heirloom Watermelon is a delicious summer treat. There are heirloom varieties of watermelon with white, pink, yellow or red flesh. Golden Midget Watermelon has pink flesh and the rind turns gold at maturity so it is easy to tell when it is ripe. Other varieties are a little more tricky to tell when they are ripe - tap on the watermelon and if it has a hollow sound, it is probably ripe. Once the stem end turns brown this is another indicator that the fruit is ripe.
