(aka Pike’s Peak, New Sibley) Introduced in 1887 by the Hiram Sibley & Co of Rochester, NY but grown for more than 50 years prior to this by an elderly lady from Van Dinam, Iowa who lived most of her life in Missouri. According to U.P. Hedrick in The Vegetables of New York, the light brown seed of this variety may link it to early Native American varieties of squash. The inversely pear shaped light blue fruit belongs to the Banana group of squashes although it looks similar to an elongated hubbard squash. The 8-10 lb. fruit have hard rinds, are excellent keepers and have golden yellow, sweet, dry flesh which improves in texture and flavor after it is stored for a few months. (110 days to maturity)
20 seeds per packet.
