aka Oriental Pumpkin. Originally bred by Neal S. Holland at the North Dakota Agriculture Experiment Station. Gold Nugget was an All America Selections Winner in 1966. Gold Nugget was developed for short season climates and it is one of the earliest squash you can grow. The small 1-3 lb fruit are orange resembling little pumpkins and are produced at the base of the compact bush plants. The flesh is dry, sweet and orange and can be stored for a couple of months. The immature fruit can also be eaten when young as summer squash. Great for limited spaces! (85 days to maturity)
